Drivers of deadwood decay of 13 temperate tree species are similar between forest and grassland habitats

چکیده
Deadwood provides an important carbon source in forests and wooded ecosystems and, accordingly, forest management strategies discuss the enrichment of deadwood amount diversity by different tree species. To investigate decomposition processes enriched deadwood, we simultaneously placed 3,669 size-standardized gamma sterilized wood specimens 13 species ( Populus tremula, Tilia cordata, Prunus avium, Betula pendula, Carpinus betulus, Fraxinus excelsior, Quercus robur, Fagus sylvatica, Acer platanoides, Larix decidua, Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies , Pseudotsuga menziesii ) at a total 300 grassland plots three regions Germany covering large gradients intensity environmental conditions. After 1 year, mass loss was calculated its relationship with traits conditions assessed to determine most factors. Mass overall higher compared habitats, as driver, followed region factors related microclimate. However, less relevant explain both habitats. Our results suggest that even after removal endophytes, is influenced same drivers (positively moisture abundance macronutrients, negatively lignin phenol concentration) naturally occurring wood. Furthermore, due immense standardized experimental setting, our study contributes better understanding thus basis for predictions cycle changing world.

متن کاملLocal-Scale Drivers of Tree Survival in a Temperate Forest
Tree survival plays a central role in forest ecosystems. Although many factors such as tree size, abiotic and biotic neighborhoods have been proposed as being important in explaining patterns of tree survival, their contributions are still subject to debate. We used generalized linear mixed models to examine the relative importance of tree size, local abiotic conditions and the density and iden...

this study aimed to investigate the effect of habitat kind on soil seed bank characteristics viz. density diversity, richness and similarity between seed bank and above ground vegetation. two different habitats (grassland and forest) were selected in vaz, mazandaran province. the grassland habitat located in the upper end of the forest habitat, adjacent to each other. then in each habitat, 7 tr...
متن کاملAre Temperate Canopy Spiders Tree-Species Specific?
Arboreal spiders in deciduous and coniferous trees were investigated on their distribution and diversity. Insecticidal knock-down was used to comprehensively sample spiders from 175 trees from 2001 to 2003 in the Białowieża forest and three remote forests in Poland. We identified 140 species from 9273 adult spiders. Spider communities were distinguished between deciduous and coniferous trees. T...
